Behind This Mask

about

Many folks out there our genuinely and literally terrified of the COVID19 pandemic.

I was inspired (if that’s the right word to use) when I accidently walked into a woman’s space. Her look of horror and angst resonated with me so much, that I wrote and recorded this song.
Please consider your fellow human beings if you are out and about, in whatever ways you can. It’s not about control. It’s about respect for your fellow humans.

"...Gregg pulls out all the stops to convey the sense of fear of others, the hyper regulated control of our movements and the time dragging monotony many experienced during the lockdown with mantra-esque verses, robotic beat, choppy guitar rhythm and clarinet floating around the song reflecting the discombobulation from society as we knew it and a sense of paranoiac dread...." Joe Bridge - Real Music Club

lyrics

Social Distancing – One by one
One person in when one person’s gone
Social conveyor belt – Step in line –
Try to break out – some to break time
Travel in this city – on a number 9 bus
Looking at the passengers – who can you trust
Try and keep some distance – try and keep some space
I wish that stupid idiot would get out of my face
Behind that line - I’m behind this mask
I’m behind that line - I’m behind this mask

I try and make my way – but I’m terrified within
Get through just another day – another day begins
Days roll into weeks – now just where have I been
Weeks roll into months – now just what have I seen
I try and make my way – but I’m terrified within
Please get out my way – I don’t know where you been
Dart around this supermarket – Like a Pac-man game
One day is another – and another feels the same
Trying to live – this dystopian dream - Trying to live – this dystopian scene
Trying to live – this dystopian dream - Trying to live – this dystopian scene
I’m behind that line - I’m behind this mask
I’m behind that line - I’m behind this mask
